Four Plenary Lectures will be given by Dr Pierre Atten, Prof. Alberto Pérez, Prof. Antonio Ramos and Prof Gérard Touchard.
Dr Pierre Atten
“Electrohydrodynamics of dispersed drops of conducting liquid: from drops deformation and interaction to emulsion evolution””
Pierre Atten received the degree of Doctor in Physics from Grenoble University (France) in 1969. In 1964, as Engineer of the “Ecole Polytechnique” in Paris, he joined the French “Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique” and started to work in the Laboratory of Electrostatics and Dielectric Materials (LEMD) of Grenoble. His studies concerned space-charge modified electric fields, the behavior of dielectric liquids subjected to electric fields and different problems of electrohydrodynamics with Coulomb force. He published extensively on various EHD instability problems (linear, nonlinear, transient) electroconvection, transition to turbulence, etc . .. Since 1991 he is also working in the field of electrostatics and more particularly on electrocapillary instabilities, on the electrorheological effect, on numerical modeling of field with injected space charge, on electrostatic precipitation and on electrocoalescence. |
Prof. Alberto Pérez
“Electrohydrodynamics: equations and their application to paradigmatic flows”
Alberto T. Pérez is Professor of Electromagnetism at the University of Seville, Spain. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1985 and his PhD in 1989, both from University of Seville. He is currently the leader of the group of Electrohydrodynamics and Cohesive Granular Media of the University of Seville. He has worked on Electrohydrodynamics instabilities and flows; the Mechanics of fine cohesive powders; and the stability and electric properties of colloidal suspensions. He was Invited Professor at the Universities of Poitiers (2007 and 2013) and Nice (2008), both in France, and Invited Researcher at the LPMC-CNRS in Nice (2003). His actual research interests are concerned with the numerical simulation of Electrohydrodynamic flows. Professor Pérez has written six books on popular science. |
Prof. Antonio Ramos
“Water flows induced by AC electric fields in microsystems”
Antonio Ramos is Professor of Electromagnetism at the University of Seville, Spain. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1988 and his PhD in 1993, both from University of Seville. He is responsible for the direction of research on Electrohydrodynamics and Electrokinetics in Microsystems in the group of Electrohydrodynamics and Cohesive Granular Media. He has worked on the Electrohydrodynamics of liquid bridges and drops, the Mechanics of fine cohesive powders and the AC Electrokinetics of particles and fluids in microsystems. Working with Prof Hywel Morgan, Prof Antonio Castellanos, Prof Antonio Gonzalez, and Dr Nicolas Green, they developed the physical models of Electrohydrodynamics and AC Electroosmosis in Microsystems. His actual research interests are concerned with the Electrokinetics of metal micro- and nano- particles in electrolytes and the Electrohydrodynamics of electrolytes in Microsystems. He is a member of the International Advisory Board of the Electrokinetic Phenomena Conference. |
Prof.Emeritus Gérard Touchard
“Fluid and particles motion versus electrical quantities”
Gérard Touchard was born in France in 1944. He received the “Doctor és Sciences Physiques” degree from the University of Poitiers, France, in 1978. He established the Electro-Fluid Dynamics Group at the University of Poitiers in 1977 and has remained its head during 30 years. He became a full Professor in 1987. During 1980–1981, he was a Visiting Researcher at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge and at University of California, Berkeley, during 1993–1994. He has organized numerus international conferences on electrostatics and is the author or coauthor of more than 350 papers. His research interests focus on interactions between flows and electrical phenomena. Dr. Touchard is a member of the Russian Academy of Engineers. He established the Société Française d’Electrostatique in 1997 and still remains its Chairman |
